Seal Workshop: 'How to determine seal settings efficiently?'

The heat sealing of packaging films is a process that can be influenced by several machine parameters such as jaw temperature, time and pressure (for heat conductive sealing). Additionally, the composition of the packaging film, the presence of contamination and the seal technology (heat conductive, ultrasonic, ...) influence the seal performance. There are several aspects that determine the seal performance. The seal window is a widely used concept that is of high industrial importance as it provides a range of parameter settings within which a good seal strength is obtained. For clean seals, this information can be mentioned in technical data sheets. However, in practice this information is not always provided. For contaminated seals, the seal window can change and experiments are required to characterize the interaction between a specific packaging material, a certain contaminant and a specific sealer. During EVOCOSEAL, a VLAIO-CORNET-TETRA-project, these interactions were investigated and a method was developed to evaluate and optimize both the clean and the contaminated seal performance.

On Thursday 20th of September, the EVOCOSEAL project partners (VerpakkingsCentrum, KU Leuven and Fraunhofer-IVV Dresden) are organizing a workshop entitled 'How to determine seal settings effeciently?'. In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided through the different steps of setting up an experimental design, performing the seal experiments and determining a seal window.

The workshop is free for members of EVOCOSEAL (Flanders and Germany), other companies can participate in the workshop for a fee of €100. Please confirm your attendance before 31st of August on this link:

There is a maximum limit of 24 registrations for this day on the basis of first come, first served - 12 in the morning (9.00 - 12.30) and 12 in the afternoon (13.00 - 16.30). We will inform you about the timing of the workshop in the week of the 3rd of September. For both groups a sandwich lunch will be provided at 12.30 - 13.00. The workshop will take place in the Packaging Technology Center (Wetenschapspark 27, 3590 Diepenbeek).

We are looking forward to meet you in Diepenbeek!
